Trayvon Martin case

Almost weekly dumps of new evidence in the Trayvon Martin case presented a wealth of material to tell a new story on what was known after six months. By weaving together police audio, 911 calls and personal interviews, we were able to construct a timeline using multimedia elements.  We decided to send an artist armed with a camera to Sanford, Fla., to see and document the scene for graphics purposes.

Since the police audio was fast moving and sometimes garbled, we painstakingly transcribed the entire dispatches and interviews and overlaid the words onto the audio with an audiometer for graphics effect. The travelling artist reconstructed the scene using maps, before-after photography and timelines. We added existing surveillance videos where appropriate in the timeline.

For the final presentation, we settled on a timeline that was divided into five distinct chapters, each containing the multimedia content apropos to each. The last frame linked to Documentcloud.com, with which we were able to highlight annotated sections of existing evidence on 180 pages.
